Ps. 39,396 and I have noted earlier the similarities between Ecclesiastes and psalms like Ps. 73. Ecclesiastes is not first a kerygmatic book, but rather one that calls the reader to engage with Qohelet’s journey and to enter into the dialogue he evokes. Thus any attempt to summarize his message is in real danger of the “heresy of paraphrase.”397 His message unfolds, and needs to unfold, as the journey develops.
